More than a year after the Atlanta Business Chronicle broke the story that a division of German-based company Schutz Group planned to relocate its Georgia plant from Doraville to Barrow County’s own town of Carl, early signs of life are being witnessed at the company’s site along Bankhead Highway.
According to city clerk Deana Davis, Schutz Container Systems Inc. has broken ground on a phased development totaling 593,000 square feet on 35.7 acres. Schutz Container Systems boasts sustainable packaging solutions, specializes in industrial transport packing systems and service, and manufactures intermediate bulk containers, plastic drums and steel drums. It is expected that the functions of the Carl plant will include plastics blow-mold and assembly, steel conduit-welding, recycling operations and office functions. With only six locations in the United States, the town of Carl considers it an honor to be listed among them. Perhaps the best news of all, Davis reports it is estimated the new Schutz Container plant will add about 200 much-needed jobs to Barrow County.
