City Spotlight: Carl

A little something from the Barrow County history books.

Did you know that the town of Carl was first incorporated in 1893 as Dillard’s Cross Roads? It would later be renamed Lawson once the railroad came to town, before receiving its official name of Carl from the Georgia legislature in 1906. The name given to this small Barrow County municipality was bestowed in honor of Carl Pate, the infant son born to a prominent local couple who owned a barber shop and general store in the town.

Check back every Wednesday for a new City Spotlight on Carl.
