City Spotlight: Braselton

The latest news from city hall.

If you happen to find yourself in the town of Braselton today and wonder what all the hub-bub is all about — there are not one, but TWO events playing out from the wee hours of the morning into the evening Saturday, June 18. The Jackson County Brevet — a cycling event benefiting the Aplastic Anemia & MDS International Foundation — begins at 7:30 a.m. at Zion Baptist Church, and the Year One Braselton Bash Car Show benefiting the Hot Rodders Children’s Charity runs from 5 to 9 p.m.  The car show will be hosted at the Year One facility at 1001 Cherry Ave. and is a family-friendly event with fun for all ages, food vendors, a kids' play area and prize drawings. The car show entry fee is just $5, and admission for spectators are free. LifeSouth will be on-site for a blood drive, and all blood types are needed. Braselton Bash Car Shows are hosted the third Saturday of every month.

In the event that you happen to miss the fun in Braselton this weekend, don’t worry. The good times continue next Saturday, June 25 with the return of Braselton’s Movies in the Park. Spray on a fine layer of bug repellent, bring your lawn chairs and picnic blankets, and join your friends and neighbors at Braselton Park in the heart of historic downtown for a showing of DreamWorks' MegaMind, featuring the vocal talents of Will Ferrell, Brad Pitt and Tina Fey. The show doesn’t begin until after dark, but plan to come early to grab a great seat on the lawn and to meet Chopper from the Gwinnett Braves. Kids can enjoy a few terrific photo ops with North Georgia’s favorite minor league baseball groundhog or bounce around on inflatables before the show, while fans of all ages can opt to follow the Gwinnett Braves on Twitter to find clues in a fun Chopper Scavenger Hunt. Additional Movies in the Park are set for July 16, Aug. 20, and Sept. 17. To stay in the know for all Braselton events, become a fan on Facebook.

Check back every Saturday for a new City Spotlight on Braselton.
