Statham Embraces the Season of Giving

The city requests donations from residents for a food and toy drive, holiday gifts for patients at East Central Regional Hospital and the purchase of raffle tickets to support the Statham Library.

During a time of year when people have generosity and goodwill toward others at the top of their holiday lists, the city of Statham asks residents, friends and neighbors to dig deep and embrace the season of giving with them.

There is not one but four major charitable events taking place at in December, and you are cordially invited to get as involved as you wish in any or all of them.

In honor of the approaching Christmas season, the Christmas in Statham Committee is joining forces with the city of Statham Sunflower Festival Committee and Boy Scout Troop/Cub Scout Pack 789 to collect nonperishable food items to be assembled and distributed as holiday meal packages Dec. 17, 2011 at city hall. Distribution will begin at 10 a.m., is on a first come, first served basis and will continue until all food stuff is distributed. To take part in the food drive, simply drop your nonperishable food items such as canned goods, instant potatoes, pasta, spaghetti sauces, peanut butter, etc., at city hall before Dec. 17.

Bring much-needed items for the patients of East Central Regional Hospital in Augusta to city hall by Dec. 7. Some suggestions for new and unwrapped gifts include board games, toothpaste and brushes, shaving lotion, deodorant, shampoo, body lotion, stationary, pens, pencils, tote bags, cookies, snacks, movies rated G and PG, socks, hats, etc. Wrapping paper, ribbons and bows are also needed. Cash donations are welcome.

Holiday Connection

Drop off new toys to city hall by Dec. 7. They will be distributed to Barrow County children ages birth to 18 in need in time for Christmas. Financial donations are also welcome.

Gingerbread House

The Statham Friends of the Library group is selling raffle tickets for a gingerbread house. Tickets are $1 each or 10 tickets for $5, and are available at city hall and at the . The drawing will be held at 4 p.m. Dec. 10 at the Friends booth during the second annual Christmas in Statham.
