Braselton Paves the Way to Smoother Traffic

With the recent completion of Davis Street and ongoing improvements to Ga. Highway 211¸ local residents will notice improvements to traffic flow soon. Expect traffic delays in the meantime.

The Georgia Department of Transportation has been busy working with the town of Braselton on improvements to roads and highways in the town.

Most recently, Mayor Bill Orr and the Braselton Town Council cut the ceremonial ribbon to open Davis Street in the historic downtown area.

“We are pleased this street is complete,” said Mayor Orr in a recent statement, “as Davis Street, the prime local artery connecting GA 53 and 124, serves as the gateway to the town’s library.”

Just last month, Barrow Patch reported about the , also located in the downtown area. Not far from there, even more major roadway improvements are under way.

In recent days, residents may have noticed substantial delays when exiting Interstate 85 at Ga. Highway 211 or travelling east on 211 across I-85. The reason for the delays is a lane shift on 211 to allow for construction of intersection improvements where 211 meets Ga. Highway 124/Braselton Highway. It has been necessary to close turn lanes at the ramps to and from I-85 and at the intersection at 124 so construction crews can safely work on the original 211 eastbound lane. Drivers should try to avoid the work zone altogether or expect delays.

Upon completion, this intersection improvement project will include right and left turn lanes on each leg of the intersection. Dual left turn lanes will be built on 124 east toward the interstate and on 211 south toward Braselton. Two through-lanes and sidewalks will be built along 211 and 124. New signal equipment will be installed to allow the traffic signals at the interstate ramps to be timed with the signal at the intersection of 211 and 124, providing a smoother traffic flow.

Awarded to CW Matthews Contracting Inc. for an estimated contract cost of $5.2 million, the project’s completion date is April 30, 2013.
