Today, June 6, is National Yo-Yo Day! The yo-yo is considered the second-oldest toy in history. In ancient Greece, the yo-yo was made of wood, metal and terracotta and would often be decorated with pictures of Greek gods.

But the term "yo-yo" wasn't coined until 1920, when Pedro Flores began manufacturing the gadgets at his factory in California.

National Yo-Yo Day was established in honor of what is believed to be the birthday of Donald F. Duncan Sr., the American businessman who manufactured the "Duncan Yo-Yo" in the early 1900s.

  • The worlds largest yo-yo weighs 256 pounds and is on display at the National Yo-Yo Museumin California.
  • In 1992, Jeffrey Hoffman took a yo-yo into space aboard the shuttle Atlantis.
  • Early forms of the toy were called quizzes, bandalores and Jou-Jous.
