Barrow County's Unemployment Rate Shows Slight Drop from July to August

Barrow County's unemployment rate dropped two-tenths of a percentage point from July to August.

Barrow County's unemployment rate dropped from 9.7 percent in July to 9.5 percent in August.

According to data released by the Georgia Department of Labor this week, Barrow bucked the metro Atlanta trend that saw rates increase one-tenth of a percentage point as a result of more layoffs in construction, trade, administrative and support services, and accommodation and food services.

The unemployment rate for the northeast Georgia region, which includes Barrow, Clarke, Elbert, Greene, Jackson, Jasper, Madison, Morgan, Newton, Oconee, Oglethorpe and Walton counties, was at 9.8 percent for August.
