Barrow County Residents Invited to 'Fall into Recycling' this Saturday

An Oct. 8 recycling event in Jefferson is open to all.

Southern hospitality is alive and well here in the great state of Georgia, as local affiliates under the statewide Keep Georgia Beautiful Foundation, Keep Barrow Beautiful and Keep Jackson Beautiful are blurring county lines to help clean up North Georgia together.

According to a recent statement by Keep Barrow Beautiful Program Director, Shannon Navarre on the city of Winder website, Jackson County has graciously invited Barrow County residents to take part in their “Fall Into Recycling” Event on Saturday, Oct. 8. Between the hours of 8 a.m. and noon, both Barrow and Jackson county residents can bring unwanted items to the Jackson County Transfer Station at 100 Landfill Drive in Jefferson to recycle for a nominal fee.

American Security Shredding will be on hand with a shredding truck to help safeguard against identity theft by securely shredding items such as bank information, cancelled or blank checks, credit card offers/information, financial statements, personal bills, income tax records, insurance coverage, investment information, legal papers, medical records and more.

Other items you can bring to the event for recycling include florescent light bulbs (more than six = $1 each), ink cartridges, household  batteries, oil and latex paint (6-plus gallons from each household = $1 per gallon), auto oil and auto batteries, aluminum, small metals, news and office paper. The recycling event will even accept old tires ($2 per auto tire, $5 per truck tire) and broken television sets ($4 each).

In the ultimate act of “recycling”, there will also be a charity drive element to this event as Keep Jackson Beautiful will be collecting donations of used clothing, eyeglasses and cell phones, in addition to nonperishable food items. So, what are you waiting for? Start cleaning out those drawers, cabinets, closets and garages. If you have more questions regarding the “Fall Into Recycling” event and fees associated with recycling certain items, call Keep Jackson Beautiful at 706-708-7198 for more information.
