The Statham City Council agreed Aug. 11, 1980, to stop building water lines outside the city limits until all city residents had been provided water. The action stemmed from a disagreement between an individual who had requested water lines so he could build a trailer park on Dooleytown Road just outside city limits. More than a dozen residents of Statham asked the city council to deny the request as it would adversely affect nearby property values.
