Around the Region: Teacher Indicted in Sex Case, Abortion Provider Fire Under Investigation and Napping Man Robbed in Parking Lot

Tucker Middle School teacher Almarcus Dewayne Thomas has been indicted on 22 counts in connection with accusations of the statutory rape of a 15-year-old student.

Thomas, 42, a seventh grade teacher and head of 's math department has been charged with five counts of statutory rape, eight counts of aggravated child molestation, three counts of sexual assault against a person in custody, two counts of sexual exploitation of children, two counts of invasion of privacy and one count of child molestation.

– East Cobb Patch

Cobb Fire and federal investigators are continuing to look into the cause of a fire at a Powers Ferry Road office building Wednesday afternoon. The building includes an obstetrics and gynecology practice owned by Dr. William McBrayer. There were no injuries reported.

McBrayer is a well-known provider of abortion services in the Atlanta area, and anti-abortion protestors occasionally picket outside Governor's Ridge

– Norcross Patch

A man was allegedly robbed at gunpoint while sitting in his car in a  parking lot in unincorporated Norcross.

According to the police report, the man, 41, of Powder Springs, decided to take a nap in his car before heading to his second job.

The victim was napping when an older-looking man approached his open window and demanded money. The victim handed him $200 from his wallet, and the suspect left the scene in a tagless, green Toyota Camry driven by a woman.
