Around the Region: Man Lying on Tracks Hit by Train, Reward Offered for Capture of Kidnapping Suspect and Motorcyclist Killed in Collision

 — Midtown Patch

A 55-year-old man lying on train tracks near West Midtown late Wednesday night was struck by a CSX train.

On Thursday, officials were still attempting to determine whether the man was already dead before being struck by the CSX Train K80201 near 762 Marietta Boulevard.

According to Kim Jones, Atlanta Police spokesman, there were no signs of foul play and the Fulton County Medical Examiner's staff is trying to determine the cause of death. The man’s name has not been released.

 — East Atlanta Patch

Atlanta police have released a sketch of the suspect being sought in connection with two attempted abduction/kidnappings earlier this week in southeast Atlanta.

The incidents occurred , when a man allegedly kidnapped two women at gunpoint between 1:50 a.m. and 2:20 a.m.

Anyone with information is urged to call 911 or Crime Stoppers Atlanta at 404-577-TIPS (8477).

A $2,000 reward is being offered for his capture.

 

 — Marietta Patch

Derrick Ferree, 24, of Marietta was killed in the  in Woodstock.

Giovanni Aragon-Mercado, 19, apparently fell asleep, crossed the center line in an SUV and struck the motorcycle driven by Ferree on Bascomb Carmel Road at approximately 5 p.m. Wednesday, said Lt. Jay Baker of the .

Ferree was transported to  in Marietta where he later died from his injuries. Mercado survived with no injuries.

The Cherokee Sheriff’s Office arrested Mercado on Thursday afternoon.

Mercado was charged with misdemeanor homicide by vehicle, failure to maintain lane and violation of license restrictions.
