Around the Region: Four Shot at Funeral, Man Killed in Hospital Parking Deck and Gas Station Owner Convicted of Fraud

Two people have been killed and two others injured in a Thursday afternoon shootout during a funeral in the parking lot of a Stone Mountain-area church.

Shortly before 2:30 p.m., shots were fired during a funeral at Victory for the World Church on N. Hairston Road, according to media reports.

No arrests have been made, according to DeKalb County police spokeswoman Mekka Parish. 

The funeral was being held for Ryan Devon Guider, who was shot to death May 26.

Sandy Springs Police are investigating a Thursday shooting/homicide in a parking deck adjacent to the Northside Hospital Women’s Center.

A black male in his 40s was found in a car that was parked in the second level of the deck. The victim had been shot multiple times.

He was taken to nearby Northside Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

 — Duluth Patch

The owner and manager of the Chevron gas station located in Marietta has been convicted and sentenced to 33 months in federal prison for Food Stamp Fraud.

Shamsha Mirza Vasay, 31, of Duluth, is accused of allowing citizens to illegally use their EBT cards to make cash withdrawals and purchases outside the scope of use for the cards. 

A two-year undercover investigation revealed that since June of 2009 Vasay had stolen over $500,000 from the Food and Nutrition Services division that coordinates food stamp vouchers and EBT cards, according to Marietta Police.
