Around the Region: Drowning Victim's Body Recovered, Shoplifter Steals Booze and Bisquits and Armed Robber Hugs Victims

 — Cumming Patch

Capt. Jason Shivers of the Forsyth County Fire Department reported that units were dispatched on Thursday afternoon to Lake Lanier in response to a "missing person, presumed drowning victim."

FCFD divers initially performed a surface search near West Bank Park, located off Buford Dam Road. This search was followed by an underwater search during which divers recovered the body of 44-year-old Rodrigo Bernal Trejo.

Melissa Cumming of the Department of Natural Resources stated that Trejo's body was found approximately 20 yards from the bank, in about 11 feet of water.

In an email communication from the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office to the Cumming Patch, sources say Trejo had arrived from Mexico a few days ago and was staying with family in the Cumming area.

 — Stone Mountain-Redan Patch

A loss prevention officer reported to police that a woman in unincorporated Stone Mountain was caught on camera trying to exit the store with Bay Parrot package drinks, Beringer beverages and biscuits.

Apparently when the woman attempted to walk past the register with the items the loss prevention officer confronted her. The suspect stated that she was in a hurry because someone was waiting for her outside the store. In the items found in the woman's possession totaled $17.94.

According to police reports, the Kroger store involved planned to prosecute the woman who was taken into custody and transported to the Dekalb County Jail.

 — Midtown Patch

Apparently armed robbers in the Midtown area stop to hug their victims.

According to an Atlanta police report, an armed robber victimized a female construction worker near the Georgia Tech campus. The woman reported that she was attacked from behind by a male who stated, "Back up! Back up! I got a gun, I'll shoot you."

The suspect took the woman's cell phone and $60 in cash and then returned her wallet stating "he was sorry" and that this was "hard for him." He then returned the wallet and gave the woman "three hugs" prior to fleeing on foot.

The male suspect was described at a 5-foot-9 black male, between the ages of 25 an 28. The case is currently under investigation.
