A man wanted in connection with the aggravated assault of his  estranged wife has been found dead.

At 7:35 a.m. Aug. 1, Alpharetta police were dispatched to the victim’s home. The victim, who was visibly upset and shaking, said she had just left her apartment to go to work. As she was leaving, a man she identified as her husband, jumped from behind bushes and allegedly ordered her at gunpoint to get into her vehicle.

After the victim got into the vehicle, the suspect, identified as Samuel Smith III, reportedly began to beat her. Numerous witnesses called 911. Smith tried to flee the area with the passenger door open, striking another vehicle. After the impact with the other vehicle, the victim was able to quickly grab the handgun and throw it out of the vehicle. She then jumped from the vehicle and ran to nearby apartments.

According to an update posted on Alpharetta Patch, Smith has been found dead and is believed to have taken his own life.

Reaction from community members, politicians and business leaders to the defeat of the TSPLOST measure have ranged from ecstatic to despondent.

State Sen. Vincent Fort said, “We’re gonna celebrate this victory. At the same time we’re gonna start working toward putting together a plan, a plan that works.”

Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed, a vocal proponent of TSPLOST, accepted defeat but vowed to start working on a new solution.

“I’m here to stick out my chin and take the loss, to accept the loss … but to ask in a respectful way that we really do sit down and not wait six or eight or 10 years but work on it right away. Because the future belongs to those who figure it out. … We’re going to have to have politics of cooperation if we’re going to meet these big challenges.”

I grew up in a Winder where doors were not locked and the town was full of folks shopping! SometimesRead More a moonshiner would get caught or the parking meter would run out of time and one would get a parking ticket by one of the three cops in town! Now I keep a weapon handy because of voices and footsteps on the pavement at night! Where are these people coming from and going to after one o'clock in the morning? Why does it take so long for a policeman to show up after a call is made,if they show up at all? I've watched nice homes on my street turn into dumps. They are rented by owners who are only interested in the money and not the quality of people who are renting. Yeah, I keep a weapon and it's loaded for a thief or prowler! When seconds count a cop is only several minutes away,if at all!
