April 6, 1975: Derailed

A railroad tanker hauling liquefied petroleum gas derailed this date in 1976.

A railroad tanker carrying 30 tons of liquefied petroleum gas derailed two miles west of Winder on April 6, 1976, propelled off the tracks by an explosive flash fire. Resulting fires were fought by 125 firemen from a dozen departments. Power and telephone service was interrupted when the blaze melted power lines. Β
