An alleged flim-flam scheme was thwarted this date in 1978, after a shopper at Holly Hill Mall became suspicious of two people who approached her.

An alleged flim-flam scheme was thwarted April 4, 1978, after a shopper at Holly Hill Mall became suspicious of two people who approached her. Two women, Wanda Johnson and Gail M. Thomas, were arrested. The shopper reported the suspects told her she had dropped an envelope and showed her a large sum of money inside. The suspects wanted the shopper to “put up” some money until the loss was reported but the shopper refused and called the sheriff’s office. The two women were charged with theft by deception and theft by taking and fit the descriptions of two suspects wanted throughout Georgia in connection to similar incidents.
