A Holiday Invitation from Statham Comes a Little Early

Statham City Hall welcomes the gifts of ideas and participation from residents leading up to the second annual Christmas in Statham.

With Halloween just around the corner and local store shelves still stocked with spooky sundries, it might be difficult to imagine that not long after all of the “trick-or-treats” have been said and all the ghostly ghouls have gone off to bed — merchants in downtown Statham will already have sugar plums dancing in their heads.

Beginning Nov. 1, would like to kick off Christmas in Statham 2011 in style by bedecking the town in holiday cheer.

While Statham has a long and rich history dating back nearly 120 years, the city's Christmas event is virtually in its infancy. After debuting just last December, the goal is to make this year’s event even bigger and better. As early as August 2011, city hall began requesting input from residents and local merchants as to how to best achieve that goal.

Slated for 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Dec. 10, the second annual Christmas in Statham will feature vendor booths boasting everything from fresh baked goods to Christmas crafts, as well as a Christmas parade, activities for the kids, Christmas carolers, visits with Santa Claus and more.

If you would like to apply to be a Christmas vendor, click here for the vendor application. In lieu of a booth space fee, the city of Statham is asking for the donation of canned goods for the food bank and/or toys for the toy drive.

The city is also asking individuals, organizations, businesses and church groups to sign on to participate in Christmas in Statham by entering a float in the Christmas parade or volunteering to supervise certain aspects, such as kids activities or concessions. In addition to volunteers for the big day itself, they welcome the gift of ideas in the weeks leading up to the event. Please call Statham City Hall at 770-725-5455 or 770-725-7771 to volunteer your time and/or inspiration.
