Winder to Welcome Home National Guard's 185th Black Hawk Unit on March 31
The city prepares to honor the National Guard's 185th Black Hawk unit March 31.
Winder-Barrow High School’s W. Clair Harris Stadium will play host to a welcome home tribute and thank you ceremony for the Georgia National Guard's 185th Black Hawk unit from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 31.
Having recently returned home from deployment in Iraq, the soldiers of the Winder-based Aviation Regiment and their families will be honored with accolades from confirmed dignitaries that include Governor Nathan Deal, National Guard Brigadier General Joe Jarrard, Colonel Robert Barker of Fort Gordon, Congressman Paul Broun and state legislators Senator Frank Ginn and Representative Terry England.
The ceremony kicks off with a dramatic jump into the stadium by Fort Benning’s Silver Wings demonstration parachute group, and concludes with food, music and activities for the children.
