Barrow's Unemployment Rate Increases from April to May

The county's rate was just one-tenth of a percentage point higher than the region's rate.

The Georgia Department of Labor announced Thursday, June 27, the unemployment rate in the northeast Georgia region increased to 7.6 percent in May, up from 7 percent in April.

Barrow County's unemployment rate for the month of May was at 7.7 percent, up from 7.2 percent in April.

The region's rate increased primarily because layoffs were up. The increase was also due to a seasonal influx of jobseekers into the labor force, as new graduates began searching for work.
