Site Work for Gateway Station Moving Forward

The planned 14,000-square-foot development is part of the retail/commercial project at the northeast corner of Ga. highways 316 and 81 under the banner Gateway at University Parkway.

Think Gateway Station is going to be just another shopping center in Barrow County? Think again.

The planned 14,000-square-foot development, part of the retail/commercial project at the northeast corner of Ga. highways 316 and 81 under the banner Gateway at University Parkway, will include a splash fountain and a clock tower.

Wayne Bartlett with in Winder said the fountain would be similar to the one at Mall of Georgia.

And that's not all. The site will also include an acre of greenspace behind the shopping center that can be used for outdoor events, such as concerts.

The main tenant within the shopping center will be Top Dawg Tavern, a family-oriented restaurant that will seat 160 to 180 guests. The retail center will also house a nail salon.

"It’s going to be in a really nice looking building," Bartlett said.

Several other businesses are considering moving into the location, including Menchie's Frozen Yogurt, a pizza place and a Chinese restaurant.

"Lots of good things going on,” Bartlett said.

A total of 160 acres are earmarked for grocery, retail, restaurant, office and medical space within Gateway at University Parkway.

I'm SUPER excited about this. I live off Haymon-Morris Road behind the Home Depot and I can't wait to have even more retailers and restaurants close to home. I LOVE Barrow Crossing and I think Gateway Station is going to be fabulous, especially the greenspace that is planned. I was excited about Barrow getting a movie theater and now to learn there is even more to come? I'm giddy!

I'm hoping for a few 'different' restaurants. There are Zaxby's, McDonalds, and Longhorn's within 20 minutes of me already.

Would love a Longhorn's. Olive Garden or nice Italian restaurant would be great too. We have to drive to Athens or Buford now. A Del Taco would be nice as far as fast food. Excited to see all the new developments happening!. Love the theater!!

Kristi, I would love to see a nice Italian restaurant in the area. I love Italian food and I have to drive to Sophia's in Lawrenceville or my favorite, Paizano's in Norcross.

I grew up in a Winder where doors were not locked and the town was full of folks shopping! SometimesRead More a moonshiner would get caught or the parking meter would run out of time and one would get a parking ticket by one of the three cops in town! Now I keep a weapon handy because of voices and footsteps on the pavement at night! Where are these people coming from and going to after one o'clock in the morning? Why does it take so long for a policeman to show up after a call is made,if they show up at all? I've watched nice homes on my street turn into dumps. They are rented by owners who are only interested in the money and not the quality of people who are renting. Yeah, I keep a weapon and it's loaded for a thief or prowler! When seconds count a cop is only several minutes away,if at all!

Excellent comment, Bill. I, too, remember what it was like to trust those around you as much trustRead More as you gave them.
