Mayfield Dairy to Reopen Braselton Visitor Center

The center is set to reopen Friday, Nov. 9, and will begin charging for tours in 2013.

After closing its Visitors Center and Ice Cream Parlor in Braselton almost a year ago, Mayfield Dairy Farms has announced plans to reopen the center.

While tours will be given free of charge through the remainder of the year, beginning in 2013, the center will charge $3 per person, with each guest receiving a free scoop of Mayfield ice cream, according to a news release posted to PR Newswire. Visiting the gift shop and ice cream parlor will still be free.

Dean Foods— parent company of the Mayfield Dairy Brand — closed the center in Oct. 31, 2011, despite requests from Braselton town officials that the center remain open.

"We are thrilled to be able to open the Braselton Visitor Center again," Mary Williams, Mayfield general manager, said in the news release. "As we indicated last fall, we were eager to reopen if we could find an economically viable way of doing so. Many guests suggested they would be willing to pay a small fee for the informational tours. In addition, the Town of Braselton has offered its support."

Tours will be offered Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays beginning at 10 a.m., with the last tour starting at 4 p.m. Gift shop and ice cream parlor hours will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, but no tours will be offered on Wednesdays. The visitors center will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays, with the first tour starting at 10 a.m. and the last tour beginning at 1 p.m. To schedule a tour, call 1-888-298-0396.

For years I would come all the way from Reno, NV so I could take my granddaughter to Mayfield's for ice cream. Reopening just made my day!

I grew up in a Winder where doors were not locked and the town was full of folks shopping! SometimesRead More a moonshiner would get caught or the parking meter would run out of time and one would get a parking ticket by one of the three cops in town! Now I keep a weapon handy because of voices and footsteps on the pavement at night! Where are these people coming from and going to after one o'clock in the morning? Why does it take so long for a policeman to show up after a call is made,if they show up at all? I've watched nice homes on my street turn into dumps. They are rented by owners who are only interested in the money and not the quality of people who are renting. Yeah, I keep a weapon and it's loaded for a thief or prowler! When seconds count a cop is only several minutes away,if at all!
