Lawrence's Cafe Moving from Buford Highway to Decatur

The Lebanese restaurant will open on West College Avenue in Decatur early next year.

Buford Highway is losing one of its ethnic restaurants.

Lawrence's Cafe is moving from the relatively grungy but long-celebrated stretch of diverse eating establishments to downtown Decatur early next year, according to a Tweet from Oakhurst Realty.

The Lebanese restaurant will open at 910 West College Ave.

Here's a summary of what the joint offers from its website:

Lawrence's enticing menu includes soups, salads, kabobs, gyro, chicken, beef and seafood dishes; and a large selection of vegetarian meals. Specialities include Lawrence's Platter, a combination of six different dishes, and Seafood Tahini, large shrimp and sea scallops sauteed in tahini sauce. And of course hummous, baba, grape leaves, kibbie and much, much more. The lunch menu offers numerous entrees (large portions) and sandwiches. Desserts include 2 different kinds of Baklava and mouth watering date mamoul (naturally sweetened with dates), with Lebanese coffee.

And if you want to check it out before you'll have to drive down to Decatur, the site also offers a coupon for $6 any purchase of $25 or more.

From the address, it appears that the location is not in downtown Decatur, as stated in the article, but is rather in what is known as Homer Simpson Plaza (since the three establishments already there offer beer, pizza and doughnuts), on West College Avenue in Oakhurst. Lawrence's should be a great addition, but the strip of shops might need a new nickname.

Good point about the location, Bill.

Tony is now open for business and, having eaten there on opening day, I can vouch for the quality of the food. Same great food--a few new menu items, and a fresh new look. Well worth a visit. Check out the tabbouleh, Lebanese coffee, dessert items all made by Tony--and don't miss his kebabs.
