Gateway Station Building Could be Complete by Late January

The could be complete by late January, Wayne Bartlett with Maynard and Bartlett Realty Group of Winder said.

The main tenant within the development, which is being built on Exchange Boulevard that runs parallel to Ga. Highway 316, will be Top Dawg Tavern, a family-oriented restaurant that will seat 160 to 180 guests. The retail center will also include a nail salon, and a podiatrist, Dr. Jonnica Dozier, recently signed a lease for suite 200 within the building. Work on that suite will begin soon, Bartlett said. 

The development is set to feature a splash fountain similar to the one at Mall of Georgia and a clock tower. The site will also include an acre of greenspace behind the shopping center that can be used for outdoor events, such as concerts. 

A total of 160 acres are earmarked for grocery, retail, restaurant, office and medical space within Gateway at University Parkway. Bartlett confirmed in October a Varsity restaurant will be built in front of the movie theater, Gateway Cinemas 12. 

Also, in October, Bartlett said a deal to bring a Longhorn Steakhouse to Barrow County was in the works but the company hasn't closed on the land purchase. 

Winder City Council members voted Tuesday, Dec. 4, to annex acreage along Exchange Boulevard that includes the Gateway Station site, as well as Athens Regional First Care, an urgent health care facility in that area. The annexations and rezonings are part of the city's plans to extend its city limits to 316. In September, Winder City Administrator Donald Toms outlined the city's reasons for seeking to expand its boundaries. The Bethlehem Town Council has also discussed annexation in the past couple months.
