The local animals hospital — founded by veterinarian Angela Thibodeaux — will sponsor a rabies vaccine and micro-chip clinic for dogs. All proceeds will benefit the construction of the Statham Dog Park at Furr Lane Park.Vaccines and microchips will be administered by Dr. Thibodeaux.

  • One-year rabies vaccine with certificate and tag is $10
  • Micro-chip and registration is $40

In addition to benefiting the construction of the dog park, both services benefit furry friends. Rabies is a viral disease of mammals passed through a bite. While humans can survive if treated immediately, there is no known cure for animals. Pet vaccinations are required by law in the state of Georgia and help protect pets from infection in the event of contact with a rabid animal.

Micro-chipping is a state-of-the-art form of identification that can significantly increase the chance that your pet will be returned safely if he or she is ever lost. Only about the size and shape of a grain of rice, the micro-chip is placed beneath your pet's skin between the shoulder blades. Implantation is safe and simple, taking only a few minutes from start to finish. Each microchip carries vital information about your pet, including your name, address and contact information. Veterinary hospitals, animal shelters and animal control offices across the country are equipped with special electronic scanners that can detect the microchip and read the identification number, which is registered and kept in a pet recovery database upon implantation. The microchip company will be alerted that a lost pet has been identified, and the pet owners can then be reunited with their pet.

In the event that you can’t make the clinic Nov. 19, both services are available at Four Paws Animal Hospital, located at 1869 Atlanta Highway in Statham. Other services offered at Four Paws include boarding, grooming, dental care, pain management, surgery, wellness exams and more.
