Downtown Winder Businesses Carry On Despite Road Work

Signs that indicate sidewalks are closed are accompanied by signs that tell customers businesses are open.

A sign outside Casey's on Jackson Street in downtown Winder reads, "Heck yes, Casey's is open."

It's a message most downtown businesses want to get out to the public - despite road work and closed sidewalks, business in Winder is carrying on.

A sign at Locos directs customers to parking at the rear of the building. It's a workaround for the construction taking place along Broad Street that will only continue until the project's completion date, which is expected to be July 31, 2014.

This .72-mile long, almost $5 million project will rebuild SR 11/Broad Street from the ground up, creating a stronger driving surface that the DOT says will last decades. Enhancement work includes new sidewalks, curb and gutter, benches, lighting and landscaping.
