Barrow County Unemployment Rate Shows Slight Increase from January to February

The unemployment rate for the county increased one-tenth of a percentage point from 8.9 percent in January to 9 percent in February.

According to the Georgie Department of Labor, the unemployment rate for Barrow County showed a slight increase from January to February. 

The unemployment rate was 8.9 percent in the first month of the year and increased one-tenth of a percentage point to 9 percent in February. 

The preliminary unemployment rate in metro Atlanta declined to 9 percent in February, down one-tenth of a percentage point from a revised 9.1 percent in January. According to the department of labor, the jobless rate in metro Atlanta in February 2010 was 9.9 percent. The employment sectors showing growth over the year were professional and business services, retail trade, education and health care and manufacturing.

The rate decreased from January to February, the report said, because there were fewer layoffs in manufacturing, construction, trade and administrative and support services. 

In metro Atlanta, Athens had the lowest area rate at 7.0 percent, while Dalton had the highest at 12.3 percent.
