“We are excited about the opportunities this partnership brings,” stated Todd Dixon, CEO of Barrow Regional Medical Center.  “Our partnership with Morrison Healthcare Food Services will provide our patients, employees and guests food choices that are healthy and diverse.  Furthermore, the partnership with a national organization that has been at the forefront of the industry on health and wellness for more than two decades will enhance our wellness philosophy and bring a brand name to Barrow.”

The new partnership gives patients and customers an array of dining options.  As this transition continues, the expansion will eventually include a weekly chef’s table special, a daily hot bar with main entrees and fresh vegetables, made-to-order grilled specialties, an expanded salad bar and a pizza area.

Morrison Healthcare Food Services participates in the Partnership for a Healthier America’s program to offer healthier food choices. Participation in the initiative means Barrow Regional Medical Center promises to:

  • Offer healthier, lower calorie meals on patient menus and in the cafeteria, which meet specific nutrition standards at the same price as other meals
  • Increase the amount of fruits and vegetables offered
  • Offer healthy beverages such as water, 100% fruit juice, unflavored low-fat and fat-free milk, teas and coffee
  • Stop offering deep-fried foods, and
  • Offer only healthy foods next to cash registers, instead of candy and salty snack foods.

“Hospitals should be leading the charge to improve nutrition,” Dixon stated, and Barrow Regional Medical Center is doing just that.
