Road Closure Planned in Downtown Winder This Week

Roadwork in downtown Winder will result in lane closures mid-week.

The Georgia Department of Transportation will close Stephens Street on the Gazebo side of Broad Street on Wednesday morning, Aug. 28, to install precast concrete slabs. The road will reopen Thursday morning.

Crews will also continue work on sidewalk, curbing and gutter construction during the daytime hours between Candler Street and Stephens Street.

Due to slab installation, there will be no street parking available in front of the Post Office and Dollar Tree. GDOT advises downtown visitors to use the parking spaces alongside or behind the Post Office and Dollar Tree.

Overnight work will involve the closure of the right lane of Broad Street from Midland Avenue to Stephens Street. The lane will be closed nightly Monday, Aug. 26 through Friday, Aug. 30. 

The $4.9-million, .72-mile long project has an estimated completion date of July 31, 2014.
