Patch Picks: Summer Camps

This week, Patch highlights summer camps.

Summer is just a couple months away, which means summer camps will soon be holding registration — and filling up. This week, Patch Picks gives you five summer camps you might consider for your child. From equestrian activities to art and drama, these camps will keep kids busy and entertained.

  1. American Dream Farm's Beginner’s Horsemanship Camp in Statham
This camp is for young campers ages 6 to 14 who are interested in learning horsemanship and riding at a beginner to an advanced beginner level.
  2. Winder YMCA's Summer Day Camp Program
At this camp, participants are grouped together by age and their days are filled with age-appropriate activities that include arts and crafts, physical activities and games, character development and devotions, programs featuring guest speakers and daily swim time.
  3. Living Legends, the Southeastern Railway Museum's 2011 summer camp in Duluth
Camp participants will learn fact versus fiction when it comes to different railroad legends while exploring more than 50 historic railcars. Each day, campers will explore a different legend, make a railroad craft and participate in related railroad activities.
  4. Winder-Barrow Community Theatre’s Children’s Playhouse Drama Camp
The play's the thing at this summer camp, where younger children can attend a morning session, while older children participate in an afternoon camp.
  5. In the Garden: Exploring Art & Nature and The Story of Me: Exploring Narrative through Print & Book Arts, summer camps at the Hudgens Center for the Arts in Duluth
These week-long camps combine art with nature and literature, allowing campers' imaginations to run wild.
