Don't Forget to Spring Forward

Residents should set clocks forward one hour for the beginning of Daylight Saving Time.

You'll lose an hour of sleep tonight but gain more hours of sunlight in the evenings.

Fair trade?

Daylight Saving Time will officially begin at 2 p.m. Sunday, but Patch suggests seetings your clock forward before you go to bed — you won't want to be an hour late for church, work or any of your other Sunday plans.

While you're setting your clocks forward an hour, Barrow County Emergency Services recommends changing out the batteries in all smoke detectors.

"A working smoke alarm can double your chances of surviving a fire in your home,” Lt. Scott Dakin, spokesman for BCES, said in a release. “You should test your smoke alarms once a month and if they are battery powered you should change the batteries twice a year.

“As always we want citizens to be as safe as possible,” Dakin continued. “One of the easiest ways to keep your smoke alarms in good working order.”
