Candler Street in Downtown Winder to Reopen on Tuesday Morning

Work crews are continuing of the installation of precast concrete slabs northbound from just before Candler Street to Midland Avenue.

If you've driven through Winder today, you may have noticed Candler Street is closed on the gazebo side of Broad Street.

That section of roadway is expected to reopen Tuesday morning, the Georgia Department of Transportation said. Work crews were continuing of the installation of precast concrete slabs northbound from just before Candler Street to Midland Avenue. Curb and gutter construction will continue during the days this week between Athens Street and Candler Street and storm drain pipe will be installed nightly across Broad Street at Midland Avenue.

After businesses close tonight, the sidewalk will be closed in front of Head Games Salon in front of the door and will be re-opened early Tuesday Morning.

The ongoing work is part of a .72-mile long, almost $5 million project that has a completion date of July 31, 2014. The project will rebuild SR 11/Broad Street from the ground up, creating a stronger driving surface that the DOT says will last decades. Enhancement work includes new sidewalks, curb and gutter, benches, lighting and landscaping.
