Bites Nearby: The Country Skillet

This week's restaurant is the place to go if you're looking for country cooking.

You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in. But we've got a better idea. Each week, Barrow Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out. Here's this week's choice:

The Country Skillet

If you are looking for the country breakfast place, the country lunch place and the Friday and Saturday country supper place, then you need look no further. The Country Skillet is all three. Stop in for breakfast and start your day with a biscuit fresh out of the oven, a piece or two of the restaurant’s “beloved” bacon or sausage and eggs cooked to order. Lunch (dinner to Southerners ) is a meat ‘n’ three heaven at The Country Skillet. These menu items change daily, but here is a sample of one lunch’s offerings: grilled chicken or oven roasted turkey breast served with the vegetables of your choice: green beans, stewed squash, mashed potatoes and pinto beans. A Friday night supper specialty is fried catfish, a favorite Southern dish that now garners a national reputation. A bountiful seafood platter is usually on the supper menu, too. The hospitality and the service give customers another reason to eat here. The Country Skillet is billed as being “inspired by the everyday cooking we all grew up with.” Come on in and try the fare and you will leave inspired.
