Bites Nearby: McCray's

Each week, Barrow Patch picks a great restaurant either in Barrow or nearby that is worth checking out.

You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in. But we've got a better idea. Each week, Barrow Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out. Here's this week's choice:

One look at the menu at McCray’s Tavern and you know that this restaurant aims to please all palettes. Start with the brunch menu, available Saturday and Sunday, which includes the morning standard of two eggs served any style but also includes more adventuresome fare, such as steak and eggs, a smoked salmon bagel and Bananas Foster French toast. A favorite feature of brunch is the Bloody Mary Bar — you make your eye-opener the way you want it. The lunch and dinner menus adhere to the same principle as brunch, offering dishes to suit all tastes. From the classic Reuben to the pecan-crusted tilapia sandwich, you will find a sandwich here to fit both your mood and your appetite. Tavern Inspirations include fish and chips, America’s culinary inheritance from the British Isles, and shrimp and grits, one of the South’s contributions to world cuisine. For an entrée, you can order a grilled ribeye, but you can also partake of a blue cheese-crusted filet of beef. The little extras at McCray’s add up to big flavor in every dish. Also on the menu are tempting appetizers, soups, salads and sides. Beer and wine and special cocktails are also on tap. For a special dinner, make the rooftop at McCray’s your destination.
