Be Part of a 'Gangnam Style' Flash Mob — Downtown Winder Event to Benefit Those in Need

This Saturday, assemble at the Winder gazebo to get your dance on — or just watch.

Downtown Winder is going Gangnam Style this Saturday, Dec. 1, as Barrow County residents are invited to assemble for a flash mob that will benefit local children in need and the hungry.

What's a flash mob? It's a large group of people who assemble suddenly in a public place, perform an unusual and pointless act for a brief time, then disperse.

What is Gangnam Style? Perhaps it's easier to show rather than explain, as South Korean rapper PSY's "Gangnam Style" video has become YouTube's most-viewed video of all time. You can also view a "Gangnam Style" flash mob in the YouTube video to the right of this text.

Saturday's flash mob will gather at the Winder gazebo at noon. Participants — and those who just want to watch — are asked to bring a non-perishable food item for the food pantry or a new, unwrapped toy for Holiday Connection. Holiday Connection is a gift store operated by Barrow County Family Connection/Communities in Schools, a collaborative in which various local agencies work together to meet the needs of Barrow County residents.

Hip Hop Santa will be on hand Saturday, along with Winder-Barrow High School cheerleaders and Emcee Kim Armstrong to lead the group in the Gangnam Style dance. For more information, view the event listing in the Barrow Patch community calendar or call 770-867-8808.
