April 21, 1975: Up in Flames

Firefighters responded to an increased number of fires at old, wooden-frame houses.

An old house went up in flames April 21, 1975, off old Atlanta Highway near the Johns-Manville Industrial Park. The fire spread to a shed and a car parked nearby, and the house was destroyed. According to Hall County Fire Chief and Georgia Fire Academy staff member Larry Williams, house fires in Barrow were increasing more rapidly than in the state as a whole. According to an article in The Winder News, firefighters had responded to an increased number of fires at old, wooden-frame houses in the past few months.
