Winder-Barrow Community Theatre recently presented a check for $500 to the John Hasty Band Scholarship Fund at Russell Middle School.  Dr. John Hasty, Jr. was Russell Middle School’s first band director.  When he died in 1993, his family and friends initiated a memorial scholarship program for members of the RMS Band.  Each year selected 6th and /or 7th grade students showing exceptional talent and hard work are given scholarships to attend the Encore Summer Music Camp for middle school band students.  The number of scholarships is based upon the success of fund-raising efforts.  The $500 will be used to fund scholarships during the summer of 2014.

This money was donated from the proceeds of the recent WBCT production of “All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten” which was directed by his widow, Elinor Hasty.  Winder-Barrow Community Theatre has a continuing program of giving back to the community through donations from the proceeds of their plays.
