Over 6,000 competitors and Team Lanier Tech wins Bronze at national competition!

Team Lanier Tech's David Jones and Mario Olivas, competing at the SkillsUSA national competition in Kansas City, win Bronze in Mechatronics!

Mechatronics is an emerging field of engineering that integrates electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, control engineering and information technology. Mechatronics combines these areas of engineering to allow the design, development and application of "smart devices" in an integrated, cross-disciplinary manner.

This year, the SkillsUSA Championships had more than 6,000 competitors in 99 hands-on skill and leadership contests this year. SkillsUSA adds contests to the SkillsUSA Championships to meet the demands of new and expanding occupations. SkillsUSA affiliated instructional programs represent 130 different occupational areas. SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled work force. SkillsUSA helps each student excel. It was formerly known as VICA (Vocational Industrial Clubs of America). Started in 1967, the competition has steadily grown from the original 54 competitors in three contests to more than 6,000 competitors.
