Cadets, from the Barrow-Jackson and Clarke County Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol – Air Force Auxiliary, graduated from the Spring 2014 Basic Cadet Training. The weekend long event, for youth 12-20, was hosted at the Northeast Georgia Regional Police Academy in Athens. Upon arriving, cadets said their goodbyes to family and were turned over to a Cadre of Cadets who exposed the trainees to military drill, customs and courtesies, history of the organization and extensive and rigorous physical training. Cadet activities during their training ranged from learning how to maintain uniforms, marshaling aircraft on a flight line, to safely and quickly navigating a challenging obstacle course.
The graduates returned to their home units prepared to serve their community and fulfill the Congressionally mandated missions of the Civil Air Patrol: Aerospace Education, Cadet Programs and Emergency Services.
The excited group of graduates all expressed their gratitude to their Cadre of peers and adult leadership and felt prepared to attend their weeklong training to be hosted at the Marine Corps Logistics Base in Albany, Ga.
