Winder Police Making Holidays Brighter Through 'Shop With a Cop' Program

The department is also assisting the Winder Fire Department with their annual toy drive.

Once again, the Winder Police Department will help local children buy Christmas presents during their annual "Shop with a Cop" program.

This year, however, the selection process will be handled differently according to WPD public information officer Chris Cooper.

"We have decided to work with the local school counselors and have asked them to select the students that we will be taking. We felt this was a very neutral way of selecting the children who get to receive the benefit of this program," Cooper explained.

The Winder Police Department will also partner with the City of Winder Fire Department to collect toys during the "Empty Stockings" toy drive. Citizens may leave new, unwrapped toys in the donation box located in the lobby of the police department at 25 East Midland Avenue. Toys may also be dropped off at the Fire Department, located at 94 N. Broad Street.

"The Winder Fire Department has been doing this for some time and was able to provide Christmas for 500 children last year," Cooper wrote in an email to media outlets. "We, at the police department, thought we could help their efforts and hope to aid them in bringing Christmas to even more children this year."
