Winder Fire Department Awarded Grant to Help Protect Senior Citizens

The grant is funded through the "Give Burns the Boot" campaign.

The City of Winder Fire Department has been awarded a grant from the Georgia Firefighter’s Burn Foundation to purchase smoke detectors for senior citizens in the community.

The 2013 Chesney Fallen Firefighter’s Memorial Grant is awarded annually to honor the memory of firefighters who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the fire service. The grant is funded through the efforts of firefighters across Georgia who raise money for the foundation during the "Give Burns the Boot" campaign.

According to a press release from the Winder Fire Department, the Georgia Firefighter’s Burn Foundation also assists families affected by fire and sponsors a summer camp at Fort Yargo state park for young burn victims.

"The Winder Fire Department proudly supports the Georgia Firefighter’s Burn Foundation and gladly accepts this grant to provide smoke detectors to protect the citizens of City of Winder," the release stated.
