The blotter is a listing of criminal activity reported by the Winder Police Department. Information is based on incident reports made available from the Winder PD. Information regarding those charged with a crime is taken directly from incident reports. Arrested individuals have been charged with, but not convicted of, the above listed crimes.
The following are summaries of recent incidents to which officers with the Winder Police Department responded. On Jan. 15, an officer was dispatched to Aaron's in Winder and viewed video surveillance footage that showed an employee removing money from a cash register. According to an incident report, the employee was behind the store counter and used his right hand to reach in the register and pull out large amounts of cash, placing the money is a back pocket before clocking out and leaving the store. That alcohol smell is hand sanitizer A man who was involved in a traffic accident Jan. 7 told an officer the smell of alcohol coming from his person was hand sanitizer. After struggling with field sobriety evaluations, James Victor Power, 21, of 307 Harrison Lane in Winder, was arrested and charged with DUI and improper backing. The complainant was only able to tell the officer, “They were picking on me.” The second party to the dispute said the complainant was blocking her from entering the residence when she pushed the complainant’s hand away and she started to bleed. A summary of incident reports provided by the Winder Police Department:  On Sept. 4, an officer was dispatched to a Melrose Street apartment where an occupant was refusing to leave. According to an incident report, the female suspect was extremely irate and continued to yell despite an officer ordering her to calm down. When the officer asked the female to turn around and place her hands behind her back, she began to pull away saying she wasn't going to jail. A summary of incident reports provided by the Winder Police Department:  On Friday, Aug. 24, an officer arrested Jontize Giles, 21, of 1521 Peters Cemetery Road in Monroe, who was charged with probation violation.  On Saturday, Aug. 25, Winder police obtained information on a individual with an outstanding warrant currently residing at a Harrison Lane address. The individual had an active warrant through the city of Winder for failing to appear on a citation.
