...DANGEROUS HEAT TO AFFECT NORTHERN AND CENTRAL GEORGIA THROUGH
THE WEEKEND...
...HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM EDT SUNDAY...
THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN PEACHTREE CITY HAS ISSUED A HEAT
ADVISORY...WHICH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM EDT SUNDAY.
• LOCATIONS...AREAS WEST AND SOUTH OF ETON...CANTON...AND
GAINSVILLE AND NORTHWEST FROM A LINE NEAR ATHENS THROUGH MACON AND
LUMPKIN.
• HEAT INDEX VALUES...NEAR 105 DEGREES THIS AFTERNOON AND
INCREASING TO 105-110 DEGREES BOTH SATURDAY AND SUNDAY.
• TIMING...PEAK HEAT INDICES OCCURRING DURING THE AFTERNOON INTO
EARLY EVENING.
• IMPACTS...CONSECUTIVE DAYS OF EXCESSIVE HEAT CAN HAVE A
CUMULATIVE EFFECT ON THE HUMAN BODY. HEAT OF THIS MAGNITUDE
AND DURATION CAN TRIGGER HEAT-RELATED ILLNESSES SUCH AS HEAT
EXHAUSTION OR EVEN HEAT STROKE. NEVER LEAVE CHILDREN OR PETS
UNATTENDED IN A CAR...EVEN WITH THE WINDOWS ROLLED DOWN.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
A HEAT ADVISORY MEANS THAT A PERIOD OF DANGEROUS HEAT IS
EXPECTED. THE COMBINATION OF HOT TEMPERATURES AND
HIGH HUMIDITY WILL CREATE HEAT INDEX READINGS OF AT LEAST
105 DEGREES AND VERY WARM OVERNIGHT TEMPERATURES.
DRINK PLENTY OF FLUIDS...STAY IN AN AIR-CONDITIONED ROOM AND
STAY OUT OF DIRECT SUNSHINE. REMEMBER...THE
ELDERLY...VERY YOUNG...AND PEOPLE WITH HEART CONDITIONS ARE MOST
AT RISK IN EXTREME HEAT. FRIENDS...RELATIVES...
AND NEIGHBORS SHOULD CHECK ON PEOPLE WHO MAY BE AT RISK.
THE ADDITIONAL MOISTURE ON SUNDAY WILL LEAD TO HEAT INDICES JUST AS
HIGH. EXPECT WIDESPREAD 105-110 HEAT INDICES BOTH AFTERNOONS WITH

It's starting to look like our high here will be 104.9º at 4:22 p.m. We've been floating around the mid 103's for the last 30 minutes or so and it's starting to trend downward. So far (except for about 10 minutes) we've been at 100 or above since 1:16pm, or a little more than 5 hours now.

Please remember to look in on elderly friends and neighbors this weekend. Many have a low tolerance to this kind of heat and some live in older homes with no central air.
