Woman Tells Deputies 'Put Me in the Drunk Tank' and Request is Granted
The 23-year-old was charged with public intoxication.
A woman who told deputies, "Put me in the drunk tank!" was booked into the Barrow County Detention Center recently on a charge of public drunkenness.
On June 18, a deputy with the Barrow County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to Barber Creek Road in reference to an intoxicated female in the roadway. Upon arrival, an officer with the Statham Police Department advised a the female had called 911 because her father had made her get out of his vehicle and she didn't know where she was.
But when the Statham officer tried to talk with the woman, she became belligerent.
The deputy approached the woman and asked what had happened and why she was on the side of the road. The woman said she and her father were driving along Ga. Highway 316 from Athens to Duluth and that she had been drinking all day, when she started an argument.
The woman said repeatedly that her father did not do anything wrong, and the whole argument was her fault because she was drunk. When the argument became heated, she said she asked her father to stop the car so she could get out, a statement that contradicted what she told the 911 dispatcher.
The woman said her father stopped on 316 near Barber Creek Road and she got out of the vehicle. From there, she walked down Barber Creek Road, stopped in front of a residence and sat down in the roadway next to the driveway.
A second deputy was able to locate the vehicle the woman's father was driving and initiated a traffic stop. The father said he and his daughter were driving from Athens to Duluth and had been drinking all evening at his son’s residence. On the drive back, he said his daughter was upset because he would not take her to get “blow,” referring to illegal narcotics.
The man said at that point he stopped the car and told her to get out and he continued driving.
The deputy asked the woman if she had anyone to call to come get her off the road and she said no, she attempted to call and text friends to come get her but no one responded.
According to the incident report, the woman said repeatedly, “Just [expletive deleted] take me to jail, put me in the drunk tank!”
While speaking to the woman, the deputy observed her pants were soiled around the groin area and her eyes were red and bloodshot. Brandy Lynn Benson, 23, of 6290 Barwick Lane in Duluth was arrested.
"Due to the fact that Ms. Benson admitted to have been drinking all evening, my observations of her person and the fact that she was in the middle of the roadway and nowhere near her residence, Ms. Benson was placed under arrest for public intoxication," the report reads.
She was transported and release to the Barrow County Detention Center.
