Winder residents Linda and Bubba Richards, along with their 7-year-old grandson Kellan, spent a chilly day outdoors to encourage Barrow residents to vote on Tuesday.

But Election Day isn't the only time the Richards take to the streets in Barrow with signs. Linda Richards said they will be out Christmas Day, Thanksgiving, Veterans Day and all patriotic holidays.

"We're both very patriotic people," she said. "We just feel very strongly about our military and what they do. We feel very strongly about our country and also about our religion, our God. Our signs always include the word God or God bless you."

The trio stood at the intersection of East Broad Street and Broad Street on Tuesday hoping to encourage drivers to visit their polling places.

They weren't the only Winder residents who braved the chill to hold signs. Sisters Meg, 10, and Courtney Jane Folsom, 16, stood outside the Winder Community Center — one of several polling locations in Barrow County — on Election Day holding a sign in support of their uncle, Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith

"We're showing our support 'cause we can't vote," Courtney Jane said.
