An initial investigation into a home fire Saturday morning determined the blaze was caused by arson. 

A deputy with the Barrow County Sheriff's Office on patrol on Princeton Drive found smoke coming from a home in the 1400 block just before 8:30 a.m. and called the fire in, at which time communication officers with Barrow County Emergency Services dispatched firefighters.

“Upon our arrival we found smoke coming from the eaves of the house,” Lt. Darryl Skinner, who was in charge of the scene, said in a news release. “We made entry into the house and found heavy smoke in the interior of the home making for low visibility.” 

Firefighters worked quickly to bring the fire under control, but the house suffered extensive damage. No one was home at the time of the fire.

An initial investigation by the Fire Investigation Team has determined the fire was caused by arson. The investigation is being handled jointly by Barrow County Emergency Services and the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office. As is the case in any arson fire in Georgia, there is up to a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of an individual responsible for arson.
