A 2005 Ford F350 Flatbed believed to have been used to haul away an ATM stolen from inside a Winder convenience store has been recovered.
Barrow County Sheriff's Office Lt. Matt Guthas said the truck was found today in a wooded area off Mulberry Road in Winder. The truck was listed as stolen out of North Carolina and investigators are currently processing the truck and the location where it was found for evidence. Investigators are also coordinating with North Carolina officials in the sharing of information in their respective cases.
The sheriff's office is still searching for two suspects in the recent theft that occurred about 5:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 3, when the two individuals, both believed to be white males, backed the truck through the front glass doors of the convenience store at the Chevron station at 1194 Hog Mountain Road in Winder. The ATM stolen from inside, which was forcefully entered and its contents removed, was recovered in Jackson County and is now in the possession of the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office being processed for evidence.
The sheriff’s office is not disclosing the value of the currency that was taken as it could jeopardize the investigation and may be of use in the future when identifying suspects and conducting interviews. Two photos taken by the store’s security system that show the vehicle that was recovered and blurry pictures of the two suspects have been released, and anyone who may recognize the suspects or has information about this incident should call the sheriff’s office's Criminal Investigations Division at 770-307-3080, ext. 3083.
