Travel to Madagascar without Ever Leaving Bethlehem

On Thursday, July 19, the create your own film festival at Carmike’s Gateway Cinemas 12 featuring DreamWorks Animation’s "Madagascar 2" and "Madagascar 3."

 

If buttered popcorn and an ice-cold soda are your idea of a great breakfast treat, you’ll definitely want to keep reading!

As part of its Summer Kids Movie Series, Carmike’s Gateway Cinemas 12 in Bethlehem will be showing DreamWorks Animation’s "Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa" at 10 a.m. this Thursday, July 19. For just $2 per person, theater-goers will be treated to a sublime combination of movie admission, a drink and popcorn. In this sequel to the original family-friendly film, "Madagascar" — featuring the vocal talents of Ben Stiller as Alex the Lion, Chris Rock as Marty the Zebra, Jada Pinkett Smith as Gloria the Hippo and David Schwimmer as Melman the Giraffe — the former inhabitants of the New York Central Park Zoo crash-land into the heart of an African wildlife refuge. Winner of the 2009 Kids Choice Award for Favorite Animated Movie, "Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa" is sure to elicit giggles from pint-sized theater patrons and parents alike.

Once the movie’s over, the fun doesn’t have to end there! It just so happens that the third "Madagascar" installment to the animated trilogy is also playing at Gateway Cinemas 12. Because this is a new release, it is showing for regular admission and concession prices. Showtimes for "Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted" on Thursday, July 19 are 1:15, 4:15, 6:45 and 9:00 p.m. While originally shot in 3D, this particular screening of Madagascar 3 will be shown in 2D. In this latest release from the DreamWorks Animation Studio, Alex, Marty, Gloria and Melman find themselves escaping the evil clutches of Captain Chantel DuBois of Monte Carlo Animal Control by hiding out with a travelling circus. According to Rotten Tomatoes by Flixster, the movie has been “certified fresh” by critics and liked by 79 percent of reporting audience members.

Remaining movies for the Summer Kids Series at the Gateway Cinemas 12 include "Bee Movie" on July 26, "Monsters vs. Aliens" on Aug. 2 and "Megamind" on Aug. 9. All shows begin at 10 a.m. and feature the $2 movie combo of admission, drink and popcorn.
