Sheriff Jud Smith said the suspect fled on foot when a deputy attempted to pull over the vehicle he was driving.

A suspect in a Tuesday morning burglary in Winder eluded law enforcement and tracking dogs for more than two hours before being taken into custody without incident.

Sheriff Jud Smith said a deputy attempted to pull the suspect's vehicle over at Ga. Highway 316 and Ga. Highway 211 on Tuesday afternoon and when the vehicle stopped, the man fled. The suspect, Robert Lewis Mayweather Jr., was wanted in connection with the burglary. Deputies also found drugs and drug paraphernalia in the suspect's vehicle.

The Barrow County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Winder Police Department, the Statham Police Department and the Oconee County Sheriff's Office.
