Winder Woman Charged with Criminal Trespass after Attempting to Pry Open Mailbox
The incident occurred at the Parkridge Apartments on Second Street.
A Winder resident and her accomplice were arrested and charged with criminal trespass June 29, 2012, after attempting to break into a mailbox.
An officer with the Winder Police Department was dispatched to the Parkridge Apartments on Second Street in reference to a report of suspicious activity. Upon arrival, the officer observed a white female and a black male standing near the mailboxes, the man holding what appeared to be a screwdriver and hammer. The officer asked the suspects what they were doing and the woman said she had lost her key and was attempting to get her check out of the mailbox. Upon taking a closer look at the mailbox, the officer observed several scratches and the locking mechanism appeared to have been destroyed.
The officer asked dispatch to contact the key holder for Parkridge Apartments and inform that individual of the situation and the damage to the property. The key holder advised the female suspect had been evicted from the property and had been advised to not return. The female suspect confirmed to the officer she had been evicted.
At that time, both suspects were placed under arrest and were transported in separate patrol vehicles to the Barrow County Detention Center. Both Brenda Lee Lancaster, 46, homeless, and Jerry Louis Ansley, 50, of 461 Tanners Bridge Road, Bethlehem, were charged with criminal trespass.
