Readers' Choice for Tastiest Place to Eat Breakfast in Barrow County: McGuire's Biscuits and Bar-B-Que
The Auburn restaurant opened Wednesday, March 14.
This week's voting resulted in a tie for tastiest place to start your morning in Barrow.
McGuire's Biscuits and Bar-B-Que in Auburn received the lone business review, while Mike and Val's in Winder received the most poll votes.
Based on the contest rules, in the event of a tie, the business with the highest number of positive reviews wins. In this case, congratulations to McGuire's Biscuits and Bar-B-Que!
What's your favorite menu item at McGuire's? Tell us in comments.

Dairy Queen has the best breakfast biscuits by far.

How does a restaurant that's been open less than a month, serves frozen hushpuppies, doesn't make their own food and had 12% of the popular vote beat a place that serves fresh homemade food and soups and had 29%of the popular vote and has been open over a year? Doesn't make sense!

Mona, based on the contest rules (created by Patch editorial's higher ups), in the event of a tie, the business with the highest number of positive reviews wins. Since McGuire's had the only review, the win went to that business.
The contest rules are outlined in a PDF to the right of the article.

The barbeque at McGuires is not barbeque by my definition. Tastes like it is boiled. Has no taste.

We had breakfast there this morning just because it won best breakfast place. We will not go back. Lovely people, terrible food. Don't waste your money, go to Chatterbox or Mike and Val's.

Maureen, I'm sorry you had a bad experience. I had lunch there when it first opened and really liked the barbecue sandwich I had.

Not sure where Mona, Diane or Maureen must have eaten, but it was not McGuire's, based on their comments. Everybody has their preferences, but the bbq is surely smoked and the food freshly made. I'll be back again and again.

You have a right to your opinion, so do we. Mine is that it is not good food, ate there, know a bunch about barbeque and that is not barbeque.

McGuires has the best homemade chicken salad along with authentic smoked BBQ. Good people, good food. Some of these comments sound like someone with a personal vendetta...mmmmmm.

Mindy, the business has only been open since March 14 of this year. Could you clarify?

Diane, if you know so much about BBQ then where is your resturtant so I can try your so called best BBQ. I went there last week and everything was great. Great people and food. The BBQ is not boiled cause the smoke house is out back. McGuire's is very well known for the BBQ and biscuits. Same family that owned JC's country ham and biscuits in Lawrenceville. They have won several rewards for the BBQ so I hate to say this Diane I really don't think you know what your talking about.

And I think you must be the owner or you wouldn't be raving so. PS Didn't like JC country ham and biscuits either. I know what I know and this is my opinion. You don't have to attack me because your restaurant doesn't have any customers.

It is bland and tastes kind of like John's barbeque. Theirs is not only bland, it tastes like it has sat in the refrigerator for a week.

I ate the BBQ and biscuits in Lawrenceville when Kenny's dad had JC's Country Ham and Biscuits.

I am not the restaurant owner but I am a regular there. Where is a good BBQ place at since you know what you know? I'm not attacking you by no means and yea we all have our own opinion on food. Some people really don't have a clue when it come to true smoked BBQ. That's my opinion.

There are pictures of JC's hanging in McGuire's. You'll have to come enjoy some more BBQ and look at the pictures.

Not eaten anything that wasn't good. Everything is homemade. Only real southern people would know that. My family has eaten there once or twice a week since its opened. The bbq is awesome. The owners are very nice & down to earth. Make you feel welcome.

Great HOMEMADE food and BBQ. Peach cobbler is awesome too. Have been there each week since opened, very nice folks. John you are right about the many awards they have won for their smoked BBQ and homemade sauce (that is also excellent) and there is a reason for that!!! Wow Diane, does sound like you have a personal vendetta and have been on here was to much, sad!!!

So you are saying if someone doesn't agree with you then they must have an ulterior motive. To my way of thinking, you take the criticism and improve your food and atmostphere for the customers, ALL of them. And, Ms. Butler, how have I been on here way too much? Just because I disagree? For the time being, this is still AMERICA!

Diane you still haven't answered my question about a better BBQ restaurant around town.

Connie's BBQ in Hoschton was the absolue best near here until they closed. Good Hope General Store is next nearest and their stew is best. Prefer Carolina BBQ sauce and good juicy correctly smoked barbeque and Connie's met the bill.

Well after you see the health scores you might just change your mind about that. Plus how can you compare a little road side stand to and restaurant and just for your information they always used liquid smoke on meat.
Diane
1:00 pm on Monday, April 23, 2012
Connie's is closed, and the Good Hope General barbeque is not just a road side stand. It is evident that you just like to argue. It doesn't concern me in the least that you are so small minded. PS. Mcguires could be called a road side stand. You could have learned fromt the former owners who had barbeque there. It was good

You have not a clue what it takes to open and run a restaurant. The time and money invested is immense. People who complain about the food and service, people who admit to liking Carolina style sauce, are trying to hurt good people's efforts to earn a honest living. That is not fair. You've voiced your opinion, it has been duly noted. Now it is time to stop kavetching and quit trying to hurt a new business' chance for success. We know who you really are and what your agenda is. You gave yourself away
with one statement you made.

Yeah Connie's closed after she realized she couldn't handle it when her husband left. Sad news.
As far as the former owners that was in the building where McGuire is at never had the food but the local customers that come in are not saying to politie of things about the food. I never ate it when it was there so I have no comment. Diane it's time to just chill out cause I think you have proved to us all that knows good smoked BBQ you really just don't have a clue.

Diane, if that is your real name, why are you so angry? Good BBQ should not be the cause of anger. You are obviously outnumbered in your dislike. Where might your restaurant be located?

I know the BBQ is not boiled, The wonderful aroma of pit cooked BBQ flows threw my hair salon each day, feeding all the hungry folks that enjoy real pit BBQ and the wonderful sides, Homemade biscuits that would put Paula Dean to shame, packed high with country ham,.Oh & the mouth watering homemade Banana pudding & strawberry pie.I could go on & on.. I am so happy they are here, Welcome to Auburn, I love being your neighbor.
